| Ah
Christmas! Garlands, decorated trees, twinkling lights,
roaring fires and gently falling snow.
Huh? ...Fires?
...Snow??
Youbettcha!
Most "locals"
are from someplace else.
Like a lot
of locals, I was raised in a northern culture so Christmas means crisp
snow, clear cold skies for the midnight church service, roaring log fires
and all the other trimmings. So even in this sub-tropical paradise, we
keep these traditions alive.
Here we get
the best of both worlds. Wonderful weather and all the traditional stuff
too. I can live with that - come to think of it - I do.
[ And
yes, it really snows here. Right on time. Several times a day. If you
know where to look! It's real snow too. More on that later...]
Central Florida
is a very popular destination for Christmas - with very good reason. For
businesses in this area, it's our busiest time of the year.
See how busy the parks are by clicking here.
So
let's address the busy factor up front.
The
Christmas season starts around November 13th. So for us lucky locals,
Christmas lasts over 6 weeks - even longer than Halloween
!
But
the crowds really kick in during the last two weeks of December.
Of
course its busy - that's the time the kids are out of school. |
|
Now I am
not suggesting, condoning or encouraging taking the kids out of school
- but ... ... ah hem ... were it to be possible ... and you were
able to visit earlier, you would be able to enjoy the full Christmas experience
but with:
- Much
lower cost, and
- Way
less crowds.

Christmas
for much less
The
holiday season for both 2006 and 2007 is December
20th to January 3rd.
The
holiday season is our highest rate. Before and after these dates
the identical villas can be rented at our lowest rates.
"Are
you telling me I can enjoy a Christmas vacation anywhere from November
13th to December 19th at the lowest rate of the year?"
Not
quite.
Thanksgiving
falls in that date band and that's a holiday season too.
Thanksgiving always falls on the fourth Thursday of November and
our Thanksgiving holiday rates start the Saturday before and runs
to the Saturday after.
So,
for 2006 the Thanksgiving holiday season runs November 18th to November
25th, 2006.
Putting
this all together:
A
Christmas holiday can be enjoyed at the lowest rate
of the year from:
-
November 13th to November 17th, and
-
November 26th to December 19th.
That's
the strange thing about the end of the year. Two short periods of
the highest rate surrounded by weeks of the lowest rates!
Mixed
rates
And
of course you do not have to stay within one rate band. Just tell
us your preferred dates and we will calculate the cost based on
a "mixed rate" of low and holiday prices. |

Not
Christmas
"but
it's not really Christmas, is it?..."
Short
answer: No, it's much cheaper!
Long
answer: You would never know it wasn't Christmas. It looks, feels,
smells and, yes, tastes like Christmas. And in any case, suspending reality
is what the parks are all about, isn't it? So add a little extra "reality
suspension" and save lots of money. That's real enough!

Avoid
the crowds
It's not
just a question of villa rental costs.
Waits for
rides over the Christmas Holiday can easily exceed 2 hours.
For a 5 minute
ride.
And that's
if you can get in.
It's not
uncommon for the Magic Kingdom to reach maximum capacity at 10.30 am and
close the entrance gates.
On the other
hand waits in the low season can be as low as 5 - 10 minutes. Many times
it's zero - we often walk right on.
Now, I don't
know about you, but I think my vacation time is precious. I go to the
parks to have as much fun as possible - lining up for hours with irritable
people is not a good use of my time. Nor yours.
And remember
this curious phenomena - the older you get the more time flies. [ I know.
I'm old. Or so my kids tell me... ! ]
Little people
think 5 minutes is forever - imagine how they view 2+ hours...
Just how
many things can you do in a day if you line up for over 2 hours?

Bottom line: take your Christmas vacation in the sweet spot
I know that
many people simply cannot take advantage of this advice. Circumstances
dictate when you can visit.
But if you
can visit in the sweet spot between Thanksgiving and the Christmas
holiday season, you'll be so glad you did!
